House Capuchin Shield2House Capuchin is a group dedicated to the research and re-creation of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as well as being a place for fun.

We are interested in the arts and sciences of this fascinating time in history, and spend a lot of time researching, making things, dressing up, making music, cooking, experimenting with and eating delicious and unusual foods and talking about the various discoveries that we’re making.

This is the 3rd blog of House Capuchin. When we filled our available space we added a 2nd blog here (https://housecapuchin2.wordpress.com/) and now a 3rd, but the original may be found at https://housecapuchin.wordpress.com  . New posts are on this blog, but the older one contains the posts though July 19, 2015 and the 2nd through February 5, 2017. Pages/Projects on the other blogs are continuing to be updated, although some of the most active will move to House Capuchin 3 as time goes on.

Lady seated motifAt the current time, House Capuchin is having a weekly meeting on Sundays at Ancient Light in Waldport, OR from noon to 6pm. The Project Day meetings are very informal, in modern dress or period costume as you please, but most of us are in ‘Danes… because we’re getting messy! Bring  a project, bring a question…. Most weeks have a theme of some sort, but there are a lot of ongoing projects. There are other venues, (gardens, beaches, living rooms, a wonderful park, etc.) but we always meet at Ancient Light, first. You can see the latest posts on our blog here: https://housecapuchin.wordpress.com/ One Sunday out of the month we do dress up and have a potluck, usually on the 3rd Sunday.

Our Sewing Night is on Thursdays. Most of the time we’re working on clothing or largesse projects, but any kind of sewing that you want to bring or learn is great. We have several machines and a big floor to cut out on.

motif BootmakerWe’re involved in a \set of experiments in a Cheese and Wine Night that’s being held irregularly when some of us have time, energy and interest. Most of these are be held at Ancient Light.

motif plant herb Marjoram bundleAnother workshop, which includes non-SCAdian folks as well, is the Saturday morning Herb Bunch (11am at Ancient Light), which is focused on herbs, herb growing, care and harvest, as well as the things which can be made from them.

We also sponsor occasional workshops and classes, usually at Ancient Light, that are not on our Project Days. These often happen because a teacher works weekends, or has other commitments that prevent them making the trek to the coast on a Sunday.

FishTridentTo find Ancient Light from the North, South or East: find the stoplight in Waldport, Oregon at the intersection of Highway 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) and Highway 34. (From the West, you’re going to be swimming or coming in by boat, so go to the Port Docks in Alsea Bay 🙂 ) Go 1 block south from the stoplight and turn left (east) onto Willow St. and immediately left into the parking lot. We’re the middle part of the block. (541)563-7154

On Google Maps we’re findable as Ancient Light, Waldport, Oregon (they still have our old listing in Seal Rock, which we moved from in 2011….)
